US cyclist Amy Dombroski was struck and killed during a training ride Thursday in Sint-Katelijne-Waver, Belgium. She was 26.
Dombroski was hit by a truck while training according to the Telenet-Fidea racing team, The Daily Camera in Boulder, Colo., reported.
She was in the midst of a speed workout and training behind a scooter when the collision occurred.
Dombroski competed in her first race in May 2006, and later that year won her first under-23 national title in cyclocross, a discipline requiring riders to dismount their bikes and carry them over obstacles. She earned two more under-23 national titles in 2007 and 2008, and went on to win under-23 national championships in road cycling and mountain biking in 2009.
Dombroski grew up alpine ski racing in Vermont and moved to Colorado after high school. A knee injury ended her ski career.
