The U.S. women ran like a rocket out of lane 1 to defend their Olympic title in the 4x100-meter relay.
Tianna Bartoletta, Allyson Felix, English Gardner and Tori Bowie held off the stacked Jamaican team to run the race in a whip-fast 41.01 seconds — the second-fastest recorded time ever. Great Britain took bronze.
With this win, Felix becomes the first woman to win five Olympic gold medals in track and field.

To think, these women were close not to making the finals at all: The American women were successfully able to protest a dropped baton during their semifinal heat to make the finals, and they made good on that second chance.
