Skipper Ken Read says the 100-foot super-maxi Comanche has set a 24-hour distance record for a monohull while competing in the Transatlantic Race 2015.
Read says Comanche covered about 620 nautical miles, although race organizers say it was 618 nautical miles, between 5:30 a.m. UTC Friday and 5:30 a.m. UTC Saturday.
The record needs to be ratified off the boat's tracker by the World Sailing Speed Record Council.
The previous 24-hour monohull distance record of 596.6 nautical miles was set by Ericsson 4, skippered by Torben Grael, on Leg 1 of the Volvo Ocean Race 2008-09.

Comanche is owned by Internet pioneer Jim Clark and his wife, Kristy Hinze-Clark.
