Germany's top Olympic official expects a clear victory for supporters of Munich's bid for the 2018 Winter Olympics in a May 8 referendum.

The vote will take place in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, the mountain resort that would host the skiing events if Munich wins the bid. Both opponents and supporters of the bid have pushed for the referendum.

Thomas Bach, president of the German Olympic Sports Union, says he expects ''a convincing majority'' to vote in favor of the games.

Munich is running against Annecy, France, and Pyeongchang, South Korea. The IOC awards the games July 6.
