The 36-year-old Olympian said through her agent that she and her husband, ballplayer Matt Treanor, are expecting their first child in the spring.

"We are excited about expanding our family," May-Treanor said in a statement issued by USA Volleyball. "We have been waiting for this and couldn't be happier."

May-Treanor retired from beach volleyball after winning her third Olympic gold medal with Kerri Walsh Jennings in London at the 2012 Summer Games. She has been coaching in California.

Walsh Jennings, who has three children, is aiming for a fourth straight Olympic beach volleyball gold medal with new partner April Ross.
