HOCHFILZEN, Austria (AP) The Austrian ski federation says a biathlon World Cup event will go ahead as planned next week despite a lack of snow in the region.
Organizers are bringing in 4,000 cubic meters of snow from Austria's highest mountain, Grossglockner, and are using 3,000 cubic meters which have been stored in a snow depot to help build a 2.5-kilometer track in the all-green Pillerseetal region.
Chief organizer Franz Berger says trucks with snow from the mountain have been coming in since Thursday, adding that ''meteorologists are predicting low temperatures for the upcoming days, which also enables us to start producing artificial snow.''
The three-day event in Hochfilzen starts Friday and is the second of the World Cup season after this weekend's opener in Ostersund, Sweden.
