The IOC says Innsbruck's preparations to host the 2012 Winter Youth Olympic Games are on track. Gian-Franco Kasper, chairman of the International Olympic Committee's coordination commission, completed an inspection visit Wednesday. The inaugural Winter Youth Games are for athletes aged 14-18. Kasper said: "We are impressed with the progress of preparations and the quality of the venues to be used." The IOC panel praised the updated Youth Olympic Village concept but said it will be a challenge to complete construction of residential apartments on time. Innsbruck, which staged the 1964 and 1976 Winter Olympics, was awarded the youth event in December. The games will feature about 1,000 athletes competing in seven sports.
