Jake Gibb and Sean Rosenthal are going back to the Olympics.

The Americans reached the semifinals of a qualifying event in Rome on Saturday, clinching enough points to put them ahead of No. 3 U.S. team Nick Lucena and Matt Fuerbringer. A maximum of two men's teams and two women's teams can go to London from each country.

Gibb and Rosenthal lost in the quarterfinals of the Beijing Games. Defending Olympic gold medalists Todd Rogers and Phil Dalhausser had already clinched a berth in London.

Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh, the two-time defending women's Olympic champions, have qualified. The other U.S. team is first-time Olympians April Ross and Jennifer Kessy.
