Fomer IOC member Diallo of Guinea dies at 82

LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) Alpha Ibraham Diallo, a former IOC member from Guinea and African Olympic head, has died. He was 82.

Diallo's death was announced Monday by the International Olympic Committee. The cause was not given.

Diallo joined the IOC in 1994 and served on the policy-making executive board from 2002-06. He retired from the IOC in 2012 and became an honorary member.

Diallo headed Guinea's Olympic committee for 15 years and was president of the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa from 2001-05.

Diallo also held several positions in the Guinean government and served in diplomatic posts in North Africa and the Middle East. He was Guinea's ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations from 1983-85.
