Eddie the Eagle to be part of torch relay

Eddie the Eagle will be back in Canada but he won't be doing any flying. Michael Edwards was an inexperienced and unorthodox ski jumper from England who became a fan favorite during the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics. He will carry the flame during the torch relay for the Vancouver Games. Edwards is scheduled to carry the torch in Winnipeg in January - one of 15 international torchbearers, mostly athletes. He had been ski jumping for just two years when he became the first Briton to compete in the sport at the Olympics. Edwards wore thick glasses that fogged up when he jumped, and he finished dead last in both of his events. He returned to Calgary last year for the 20th anniversary of the '88 games.
