Domracheva wins women's biathlon World Cup title
KHANTY-MANSIYSK, Russia (AP) Darya Domracheva of Belarus won her first overall women's biathlon World Cup title Sunday in the final race of the season.
Domracheva went into the race as standings leader and fourth place was enough to secure the title, while her main rival and reigning champion Kaisa Makarainen of Finland, could only manage 13th after some poor shooting.
The 12.5-kilometer mass start race was won by Germany's Laura Dahlmeier, who shot clean to finish in a time of 35 minutes 8.2 seconds, with second place going to Gabriela Soukalova of the Czech Republic, 7.1 seconds down.
France's Marie Dorin Habert, 12.8 seconds further back, was third.
For Domracheva, winning the World Cup fills a gap in a successful career that also includes three gold medals at last year's Sochi Olympics and two world championship titles.
The result also meant Germany's Franziska Preuss wins the mass start discipline title.
Earlier, Slovenia's Jakov Fak won the final race of the men's World Cup biathlon season, taking victory in a 15K mass start event in Russia.
Fak was the only athlete in the 30-man field to make all his 20 shots and finished in a time of 38 minutes 9.8 seconds, 10.3 seconds ahead of second-placed Russian Anton Shipulin.
Shipulin's placing gave him the season mass start title.
The bronze went to Norway's Tarjei Boe, 1.2 seconds further back.
A day after securing his fourth straight overall World Cup title, France's Martin Fourcade could only manage 20th place.
