MARIBOR, Slovenia (AP) Eva-Maria Brem of Austria led the opening run of a women's World Cup giant slalom on a deteriorating course due to warm weather on Saturday.

Brem timed 1 minute, 12.85 seconds on the Pohorje 2 course to lead Viktoria Rebensburg of Germany by 0.37, and Lara Gut of Switzerland by 0.53.

Nina Loeseth of Norway was 0.85 back in fourth while the rest of the field came at least 1.22 behind.

Overall World Cup leader Lindsey Vonn started 15th and came 2.45 back in 12th. The American leads Gut by 900-855 points.

Mild temperatures weakened the top layer of the course, which slowed later starters. Even racers who were well over five seconds off the lead finished in the top 30 and qualified for the second run.
