Alex Morgan scores her first goal in Women's World Cup
By Justin Hathaway
Alex Morgan is scoring goals again — and just in time for Team USA.
Morgan netted her first goal of this Women’s World Cup on Monday night when she sniped a shot past Colombia backup goalkeeper Stefany Castaño, who tried to cheat off the post in anticipation of a cross pass.

Morgan’s 53rd-minute tally opened Team USA’s scoring in the 2-0 winin Edmonton, and took heat off Abby Wambach, who had missed a penalty kick four minutes later. Catalina Perez, Colombia’s starting keeper, had been sent off for taking down Morgan in the box.
Morgan is the face of U.S. women’s soccer, and if her goal is a sign of things to come, it’d be welcome news for a U.S. team that’s in the quarterfinals but not without some unsure performances. Next up: China on Friday night in Ottawa.
