NEWARK, N.J. (AP) Travis Zajac scored in the fifth round of the shootout, lifting the New Jersey Devils to a 2-1 victory over the New York Islanders in a preseason game Thursday night.

The Devils got on the scoreboard first, getting a power-play goal on a slap shot from Mike Cammalleri just 3:16 into the game. Cammalleri, signed in the offseason to help the team's sagging offense, scored his first New Jersey goal on assits by Damien Brunner and Zajac.

The Islanders tied the score at 4:51 of the third period when career minor leaguer Kael Mouillierat scored on a deflection of a shot by Scott Mayfield. The shot bounced on the ice and slid past Devils goalie Cory Schneider.

Schneider stopped 19 shots and the Islanders' Jaroslav Halak also had 19 saves.
