The World Cup of Hockey tournament starts this afternoon when Team USA and Team Europe hit the ice at 3:30 p.m. ET.

It is finally here hockey fans! The 2016 World Cup of Hockey will get underway today from the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario. After 10 days or so of exhibition play, the real tournament is ready to roll.

Team USA and Team Europe will be well represented by several Red Wings players in this year’s World Cup. In today’s matchup four Red Wings players will suit up for action.  Frans Nielsen, Tomas Tatar and Thomas Vanek will be on the European team, while Detroit Red Wings Justin Abdelkader is the lone Detroiter on Team USA.

While these guys all get along and play for the same NHL team, it must seem a bit odd going after each other in the World Cup. Team USA is the favorite (along with Team Canada) to win the 2016 World Cup championship and one of the main reasons could be the goaltenders.

According to a USA Today report, Jonathan Quick (Los Angeles Kings) was officially named USA’s starter Friday morning. Quick has led the Kings to two Stanley Cup championships and he also has a Conn Smythe Trophy under his belt. If Team USA runs into trouble behind Quick, they have the very capable Cory Schneider (New Jersey Devils) and Ben Bishop (Tampa Bay Lightning) waiting in the wings.

Las Vegas odds makers have Team USA listed as a big favorite today at -1.5 goals, or -500 on the money line. The over/under number for total goals scored is set at 6.

Face off is set for 3:30 p.m. ET and the game can be seen live on ESPN2. Fans on the go can catch all of the action streaming live via Watch ESPN. The fast facts for this game are set below.
