Winnipeg Jets: Injuries Begin Trade Talk

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Well, the Winnipeg Jets are plagued with injuries once again, and aren’t looking playoff bound at the moment.

The Winnipeg Jets can definitely say they have an injury problem, with each of Shawn Matthias, Mark Stuart, Tyler Myers, Drew Stafford, Joel Armia, Mathieu Perrault and Bryan Little currently out. With all these injuries for them, this obviously means they need to bring some new players in. There are a few options that pop up, such as calling some players up, or looking at waivers, but if you really want a quality player, a trade is another option.

The first hole that the Jets need to fill is a big one on defense. Currently, they are missing Tyler Myers, and Mark Stuart to injuries, and Jacob Trouba to a contract dispute. The Jets need a young defenseman who could help replace Trouba. They also need some young depth on the blueline.

An option for the Jvets could be Ivan Provorov, who is a left handed defenseman, (Exactly what the Jets need) and he is very young. He looks like he could be a solid, offensive defenseman in the future. Provorov is on the Flyers, and could be a good return if the Jets were to pursue him.

The Jets could also probably pick up another player such as Brandon Manning as an addition to a Provorov trade if they were willing to throw in some other assets as well. Manning is another young defenseman, who could fit nicely into the Winnipeg Jets lineup.

If things didn’t work out for the Jets and the Flyers, another partner could possibly be Edmonton. The Oilers have, undoubtedly, one of the worst D-core’s in the league. If the Oilers wanted to get Jacob Trouba off the Jets hands, they, like any other team, would have to pay a hefty price.

Now, another one of the Jets current needs is a young, depth forward. The Jets are currently missing Drew Stafford, Bryan Little, Shawn Matthias Joel Armia, and Mathieu Perrault all due to injuries. If they wanted someone like that, it would definitely make sense to call up the Manitoba Moose scoring leader, and one of their top prospects, Jack Roslovic. I had the opportunity to see Roslovic play at the prospects game during the offseason, and boy, he is sure fun to watch. I think he would make a good replacement, and whenever needed, could be returned to the AHL.

Below is what the injury time line, and what type of injury is for each player:

Shawn Matthias – Knee Injury – Week-to-week

Mark Stuart – Lower Body Injury – Day to Day

Tyler Myers – Lower Body Injury – Day to Day

Drew Stafford – Upper Body Injury – Undisclosed Length

Bryan Little – Lower Body Injury – End of November

Joel Armia – Unknown – Undisclosed Length

Mathieu Perrault – Unknown – Undisclosed Length

Now all we can do is imagine what the Jets management will do to replace some of the key players they are missing.
