Minnesota Wild left wing Matt Cooke has a lower-body injury that could end his season early.

Coach Mike Yeo says there was ''definitely potential'' of a long-term absence for Cooke. Yeo declined Tuesday to specify the nature of the injury, saying he was waiting for more information before revealing a timetable for Cooke's recovery.

Cooke has missed 22 games over nearly two months early in the season because of a hip flexor muscle injury. Yeo says this injury is different but might have resulted from overcompensation for the other condition.

The Wild also placed right wing Justin Fontaine on injured reserve Tuesday with a lower-body injury and recalled center Jordan Schroeder from their AHL affiliate in Iowa.
