Washington Capitals go for 10 Straight at Home Tuesday Night
The Washington Capitals have not lost at Verizon Center in 2017.
Home has been a very friendly place for the Washington Capitals this season. Overall, the Caps are 21-5-1 at Verizon Center. Currently, they are riding a nine-game home winning streak, having last lost in DC on December 29.
Washington will have a good chance at stretching the streak to 10 straight at home when the Carolina Hurricanes come to Verizon Center Tuesday night.
The Caps and Canes have met a total of three times this season, with Washington coming out victorious in two. The last meeting was a 6-1 win by the Caps at Verizon Center on January 23. Although the Hurricanes scored first in that one, Washington took advantage of its secondary scoring.
Defenseman Dmitry Orlov netted two goals and Lars Eller provided another. Several defensemen and bottom-six players registered a point, including two assists by Karl Alzner and three from Andre Burakovsky.
Goalie Braden Holtby made his only start of the season against Carolina in that game and stopped 25 shots. Backup netminder Philipp Grubauer was between the pipes for the other two games.
Washington has scored a total of 10 goals in the three games.
Carolina is just 5-5 in its last 10 games but enters Tuesday’s tilt riding a three-game win streak. The Hurricanes have scored 12 total goals over that stretch. Jeff Skinner leads the team this season with 37 points and 18 goals.
The Caps have been on a roll and will look to keep their position as the best team in the NHL.
