Warsofsky's injury following collision with referee prompts Pens to recall Pouliot
Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman David Warsofsky suffered an undisclosed injury after tripping over fallen referee Tim Peel during the third period of Sunday's game against the Carolina Hurricanes.
Peel had lost an edge on his skates in the neutral zone and slid into Warsofsky, who was skating backward in a bid to defend against the oncoming rush by the Hurricanes. The 25-year-old Warsofsky fell to the ice upon collision and remained there for several moments while holding his head until he was helped off by his teammates.
Warsofsky (one goal in 12 games) was playing in place of fellow blue-liner Kris Letang, who missed Sunday's 5-0 rout of Carolina after suffering an undisclosed injury in Friday's 5-4 setback at the Tampa Bay Lightning.
With Warsofsky and Letang sidelined, Pittsburgh recalled Derrick Pouliot from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the Amercan Hockey League on Monday prior to the team's game against the St. Louis Blues. The 22-year-old Pouliot collected two goals and five assists in 34 games last season with the Penguins.
The eighth overall pick of the 2012 draft, Pouliot has scored six goals and set up 17 others with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton this season.
