Sweeney's options may be limited regarding Chara

Missing the playoffs is not something Bruins fans have been accustomed to recently, with this season marking the first that has happened since 2007. Winning is an expectation in Boston, and new general manager Don Sweeney will certainly not be immune that heading into next season.

Among the first things on Sweeney's plate will be determining the fate of head coach Claude Julien. Many critics are calling for Julien's job, and determining the shape of next season's roster is likely dependent on who is behind the bench for the Bruins.

After falling to 22nd in the league in scoring, there have been suggestions to moving long-time captain Zdeno Chara in a trade, in order to get some offensive talent in return. The Bruins could certainly use the help on offense, but the market for a 38-year-old defenseman with three years and $16 million left on his contract may be limited. A move involving Chara would more likely be in order to clear up cap space, which may prove to be limited for Sweeney.
