Published Dec. 27, 2010 10:58 p.m. ET

Colorado Avalanche defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk left the game late in the second period after taking a puck to the face in Monday night's game with the Detroit Red Wings.

Shattenkirk was hit above the right eyebrow on a slap shot by Detroit's Kris Draper with 2:08 left in the second period. Shattenkirk remained on the ice for several minutes before skating off the ice with the help of a trainer and holding a towel over his face. He went directly into the locker room.
