Patrick Sharp couldn't deliver an All-Star victory for his hometown friend's team. He'll have to settle for a new car for himself.

The Chicago Blackhawks forward had a goal and two assists for Team Staal to win the MVP award, but Team Lidstrom skated off with the 11-10 victory on Sunday night in the debut of the choose-'em-up All-Star roster format.

On an All-Star squad dominated by captain Eric Staal's Carolina Hurricanes teammates and members of his family, it was a friend from their mutual hometown of Thunder Bay, Ontario, who skated off with the big prize. Staal selected Sharp with the 15th pick of the draft.

Officials presented Sharp with an oversized ceremonial key to a new car.
