Senators' arena to be renamed

The Ottawa Senators' home is getting a new name.

The NHL team said Tuesday that Scotiabank Place will be called Canadian Tire Centre, starting in July. Neither party disclosed terms of the deal. This will be the fourth name change since the building opened in 1996.

Senators owner Eugene Melnyk says the new partnership between Senators Sports & Entertainment and the Canadian Tire Corp. is not limited to arena naming rights.

The Senators signed a 15-year, $20 million agreement with Scotiabank in 2006. Parts of the agreement were to expire, including an opt-out by the Senators on naming rights.

Canadian Tire is an original sponsor of the Senators. It has been involved with the team since the city was awarded a franchise in 1990.
