Semin returns for Capitals; Green sits out

Washington Capitals left wing Alexander Semin is back after missing 12 games with a groin injury, while defenseman Mike Green is still recovering after taking a puck to the head.

Semin played in Tuesday night's game against the San Jose Sharks, his first appearance since Jan. 8 as well as his first since signing a one-year, $6.7 million contract extension last month.

Semin had 18 goals and 17 assists at the time he was sidelined, but he hadn't scored since Nov. 28.

Green required numerous stitches after being struck on the right side of the head by a slap shot from Brooks Orpik in Sunday's win over Pittsburgh. The Capitals are hopeful he can return for Saturday's game against Los Angeles.
