The Tampa Bay Lightning have signed former Vancouver defenseman Sami Salo to a two-year contract.
General manager Steve Yzerman announced a two-year agreement with the 37-year-old free agent on Sunday night. Salo spent the past nine seasons with the Canucks and has appeared in 761 career games with Vancouver and the Ottawa Senators.
Over portions of 13 NHL seasons, Salo has 93 goals and 305 points. He appeared in 100 playoff games with the Senators and Canucks. He also has been a part of three teams that competed for Finland in the Olympics.
Salo, a ninth-round draft pick of the Senators in 1996, appeared in 69 games with Vancouver last season, finishing with nine goals and 25 points. He led Canucks defensemen with seven power-play goals.
