Sabres send G Enroth to AHL Portland

The Buffalo Sabres finalized their 23-man roster Wednesday by assigning goalie Jhonas Enroth to Portland of the American Hockey League.

The team also announced that veteran forward Matt Ellis cleared waivers and will also be going to Portland.

Ellis played in 72 games for the Sabres last season, but became expendable when Buffalo signed veteran free agent Rob Niedermayer.

Meanwhile, coach Lindy Ruff said that both injured left winger Thomas Vanek (head) and defenseman Craig Rivet (throat) have a good chance of being ready for Friday's season opener at Ottawa after they both skated in practice Wednesday.
