Sabres in talks to have F Kotalik play in Europe

The Buffalo Sabres are attempting to reach an arrangement allowing forward Ales Kotalik to play in Europe this season.

Without going into specifics, general manager Darcy Regier would only say, ''We're working on it,'' Thursday. Playing in Europe became an option after Kotalik did not report to the Sabres' American Hockey League farm club in Rochester upon clearing waivers Monday.

He's a nine-year NHL veteran, who was reacquired by Buffalo in a trade with Calgary in June. From the former Czechoslovakia, Kotalik expressed a desire to play in Europe rather than in the minors.

The Sabres waived Kotalik to get under the NHL salary cap. He's set to make $3 million this season.
