Sabres hire ex-Harvard coach Forton

Buffalo Sabres coach Ron Rolston has filled out his staff by hiring former Harvard assistant Jerry Forton.

The Sabres announced the hiring Wednesday shortly, after players began reporting for the start of training camp. Their first practice is set for Thursday morning.

Forton has 18 years of experience coaching at the college level, including the past two at Harvard. He has also worked at UMass-Lowell and Niagara.

He joins a new-look staff under Rolston, who took over in February after longtime coach Lindy Ruff was fired. The Sabres went 15-11-5 under Rolston but missed the playoffs.
