Revenge porn charges against Blackhawks prospect dropped

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 12:54 p.m. ET

CHICAGO (AP) Prosecutors in Illinois have dropped revenge porn charges against a minor league hockey player, saying they have no jurisdiction in the matter.

DeKalb County prosecutors said the charges against 23-year-old Garret Ross were dropped Tuesday after investigators determined the incident happened while Ross was in Michigan.

The Chicago Blackhawks suspended Ross over the accusations that he shared an image of a woman engaged in a sexual act without her consent. The team said Tuesday he was reinstated with the IceHogs.

Ross, of Dearborn Heights, Michigan, was charged Feb. 2.

According to court records, a Sycamore, Illinois, woman told authorities in September she exchanged nude video and pictures with a teammate of Ross before ending the relationship because he had a girlfriend. The woman said Ross' girlfriend dumped him for the same reason, and both men blamed her.
