Report: Rich Peverley might be able to resume NHL career
Dallas Stars forward Rich Peverley hasn’t played in the NHL since he collapsed on the bench during a game in March of 2014.
Fortunately for Peverley, who underwent heart surgery about a week after the incident, it appears that a comeback might be possible if he wants to resume his career.
TSN’s Bob McKenzie shared the details Wednesday via Twitter.
"Peverley still needs to see more doctors and there would need to be work done with NHL and NHLPA on insurance waiver issues ... but, for now anyway, the story is that some encouraging medical news has Peverley at least looking hard at the possibility of comeback," McKenzie tweeted.
If the veteran forward is cleared for hockey activities and attempts a comeback, it might not be with the Stars.
"Peverley's contract with DAL expires June 30, so if he can overcome medical/insurance hurdles, he could be UFA this summer," McKenzie reports.
Peverley was acquired by Dallas from the Boston Bruins in the Tyler Seguin trade made on July 4, 2013. He was a fan favorite during his two-plus seasons in Boston and played a key role in the Bruins winning the 2011 Stanley Cup Final against the Vancouver Canucks.
