Mike Modano will be joining the Red Wings, the Detroit Free Press reported.
Modano, 40, leaving the Stars after 20 seasons, has also been courted by the Sharks and Wild but picked the Red Wings, the Free Press said, citing a source with knowledge of Modano’s decision.
“Big announcement Thursday,” Modano sent in a text Monday, the newspaper said.
Modano, a native of the Detroit area and the No. 1 U.S.-born scorer in NHL history, would center the Red Wings’ third line. He was offered a one-year contract for $1.25 million, the Free Press said.
