Red Wings send Eaves, Glendening to minors

The Detroit Red Wings have assigned forwards Patrick Eaves and Luke Glendening to Grand Rapids of the AHL.

The 29-year-old Eaves has played in only three games with the Red Wings this season, averaging 9:14 of ice time after a knee injury in the preseason. The Red Wings put Eaves on waivers Thursday, giving teams a day to claim him. Coach Mike Babcock said then that the Red Wings were hoping Eaves would get a chance to play regularly for another team.

Detroit signed Eaves to a $3.6 million, three-year contract in 2011 after giving him one-year deals in 2009 and 2010.

The 24-year-old Glendening has played eight games with the Red Wings this season, averaging 9:28 of ice time.
