New York Rangers defenseman Marc Staal was ruled out of Friday's game against the Washington Capitals with a left knee injury.

Staal hurt the knee during the first period of Tuesday's game against Carolina. In the second period, he took a big hit from his brother Eric, then left for good in the third period.

Marc Staal said the hit from his brother did not aggravate the knee injury. Staal has seven goals and 16 assists on the season.

In other injury news, Rangers forward Ruslan Fedotenko was active Friday for the first time since Jan. 19. Fedotenko missed 14 games with a separated shoulder and also underwent an appendectomy. In 48 games, Fedotenko has nine goals and 10 assists.
