Rangers coach Vigneault laughs off Lundqvist doubts

New York goaltender Henrik Lundqvist has not been at his best so far in the Eastern Conference finals, and his poor play prompted many New York fans to wonder whether backup goaltender Cam Talbot could get a start. But when reporters confronted Rangers coach Alain Vigneault about the controversy Thursday, Vigneault dismissed the calls for Talbot.

"Is that a question?” Vigneault said Thursday when reporters asked about Lundqvist. “Hank’s the guy.

Talbot did an admirable job filling in for Lundqvist late in the season when Lundqvist was on the bench due to a throat injury. The 27-year-old backup went 17-5-3 in Lundqvist's absence and posted two shutouts. He has five total shutouts this season and a .926 save percentage.

But Vigneault told reporters Thursday that he was confident Lundqvist would bounce back from the consecutive poor starts.

"Hank is very accountable, very demanding of himself,” Vigneault told the media. “He’s going to do what any good goaltender does. He’s going to put [Wednesday’s] game behind him and move on."
