Quenneville: Hossa 'likely' to return

Published Jun. 18, 2013 1:00 a.m. ET

Marian Hossa will “likely” play in Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final, Chicago Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville told reporters at TD Garden on Tuesday.

Hossa was a surprise scratch before Game 3 on Monday, a tilt the Boston Bruins won, 2-0, to take a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven series. Details remained scant on what Quenneville had described as an “upper-body injury.”

“I’m not going to go exactly into what the injury is or occurred, but I’m going to say he’s likely to play tomorrow night,” Quenneville said.

Game 4 is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET on Wednesday.

Hossa is tied for the most points (15) this postseason on the Blackhawks. He was replaced in the lineup by Ben Smith, who didn’t even take the Game 3 warm-up.

“I didn’t want to tip our hand,” Quenneville said when asked why Smith didn’t take to the ice immediately before the game.
