Penguins rally for critical Game 3 win

Published Jun. 3, 2009 9:18 a.m. ET

The Pittsburgh Penguins lacked scoring and confidence while losing the first two games of the Stanley Cup finals in Detroit. With some calming words and a big goal, Sergei Gonchar supplied both with a performance that might have saved their season.

Gonchar's power-play goal midway through the third period and Marc-Andre Fleury's strong work in the net revived the Penguins on Tuesday night. The finals are far from over for Pittsburgh following a 4-2 victory against the Detroit Red Wings in Game 3.
