Published Dec. 13, 2009 4:07 a.m. ET

Sidney Crosby has been ruled out of the Pittsburgh Penguins' game against the Chicago Blackhawks with a sore groin, a recurring problem during his five-season career.

Crosby has been on a tear of late with seven goals and four assists in three games. Saturday night was the first game he missed this season.

The captain is listed as day to day with an injury that has gotten progressively worse since the Penguins beat Colorado 4-1 on Thursday. The Penguins play again Monday against Carolina.
