The Edmonton Oilers opened free agency by signing forward Ben Eager.

Shortly after the start of the NHL's signing period on Friday, Edmonton agreed with Eager on a three-year, $3.3 million deal. The 6-foot-2, 235-pound forward, had seven goals and 17 points in 68 games last season with Atlanta and San Jose.

The Oilers also signed defenseman Cam Barker to a two-year, $2.25-million contract, and agreed with forward Darcy Hordichuk on a one-year contract.

The 27-year-old Eager has 34 goals and 35 assists in 323 NHL games with Philadelphia, Chicago, Atlanta and San Jose. Barker, who had one goal and four assists in 52 games with Minnesota last season, had his contract bought out by the Wild.
