NHL World Cup: Team Europe is Bound to Struggle
With the NHL World Cup Inching Closer Every Day, it’s Apparent That Team Europe is Bound to Struggle in the Tournament.
Team Europe is a talented team. They have a team consisting of Marian Gaborik, Anze Kopitar, Thomas Vanek, and Leon Draisaitl. So why aren’t they the team to beat in the upcoming NHL World Cup? Team Europe is a team of players with no country.
Europe is set to rely mainly on their Slovakian players, Danish players, and a few German players. The team is not representative of Europe as a whole, but that’s not why they’ll struggle.

Some of the best NHL players make up Team USA. As does Russia, and Team Canada. Only a handful of players from Europe were good enough to make a roster compete in a tournament as big as the NHL World Cup, and will have to rely on a select few.
Many of the players have not played together internationally before, and that itself can cause problems. The chemistry of Sweden, USA, Canada, and Russia are strong. They have all played together at some level internationally and know the strong points of everyone on their team.
Team Europe can’t say that. And let’s face it, the only reason why Europe is here is so the entire continent of Europe can have a part in the tournament. It’s the reason why we have the Under 23 North America team to balance the number of teams competing.
Just like team North America, Team Europe has no real chemistry going for it. North America and Europe will not be competing in 2020, rather, they will be replaced by qualifying teams.
Europe is not fully representative of Europe as a whole. And the team has little chemistry to suggest that they will succeed. With already successful systems in place for teams such as USA, Europe is starting from scratch with no successful system in place, let alone a system at all.
