NHL: World Cup of Hockey roster deadline moved to March 2

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 3:28 p.m. ET

General managers of the eight teams competing in this year's World Cup of Hockey are getting an extra day to establish their initial 16-player rosters.

NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly confirmed in an email to The Associated Press on Thursday that the deadline was moved back to March 2. The shift was made to provide team officials an additional 24-hour break following the NHL's trading deadline on Feb. 29.

ESPN.com first reported the change Wednesday.

Teams have until June 1 to fill out their remaining rosters for the two-week tournament to be played in Toronto in September.
