NHL: Who plays on NBCSN this week?
Which NHL teams will be featured on NBCSN during the season’s opening week?
The NHL season officially starts on Wednesday Oct. 12. NBCSN will begin its tenth year of coverage, which began in 2006. Anton Carter, Mike Milbury, Jeremy Roenick, and Keith Jones will return in their roles as studio analysts.
Pierre McGuire will be a rinkside reporter, along with Joe Micheletti. Mike “Doc” Emerick, Gord Miller, Chris Cuthbert, Kenny Albert, Randy Hahn, and John Forslund will rotate as the lead play-by-play announcers. Eddie Olczyk will serve as the lead color analyst, while Ray Ferraro and others will serve in a part time role as color analysts.
In the opening week of the 2016-17 season, there will be four games on NBCSN. Wednesday will have a double header. The St. Louis Blues visiting the Chicago Blackhawks at 8:00 p.m. EST while the Los Angeles Kings will visit the San Jose Sharks at 10:30 p.m. EST. Both of the games are rivalries, which should make for good hockey.
The Blues and Blackhawks will face each other for the first time since their first round series of the 2015-16 playoffs. Meanwhile, the Kings and Sharks will also be facing each other for the first time since their first round series. The Blues beat the Blackhawks in seven games while the Sharks won in five games.
Thursday Oct. 16 will feature the Washington Capitals taking on the reigning Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins. The Penguins beat the Capitals in six games during the Eastern Conference Semifinals last year.
Pittsburgh will be receiving their championship rings and raising their championship banner. Because of this, expect the two teams to be fired up as Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin and Penguins captain Sidney Crosby each try to lead their teams to victory.
Friday Oct. 17 will feature the Blackhawks traveling to Nashville to take on the Nashville Predators. Moreover, this will be defenseman P.K. Subban’s first regular season game with the Predators. Jonathan Toews, Duncan Keith, and Corey Crawford will be looking to lead the Blackhawks to a win. Meanwhile, Filip Forsberg, Ryan Johansen, and Subban will be trying to lead the Predators to a huge home win.
