New York Rangers Traverse City Team to Play Tonight in 3rd Place Game
The Traverse City Prospect Tournament has been a fun one for New York Rangers fans, but all good things must come to an end.
With the Traverse City Prospect Tournament drawing to a close tonight, the New York Rangers prospect group will play in the 3rd place game tonight against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
This 3rd place game will be the 4th game of this week long tourney in Traverse City, Michigan for both the Rangers and the Blue Jackets. The Baby Bluejackets, just like the Baby Rangers, won their last 2 games after dropping their first game, a 6-4 loss at the hands of the hosting Detroit Red Wings.
The key to this game will be limiting the Jacket’s offensive opportunities over the course of the game. The New York Rangers goalie for the game has not been announced yet, but it will be either Rangers prospect Brandon Halverson, or Soo Greyhounds goalie and prospect camp invitee Joseph Raaymakers.
While Halverson has been forced to make at least 34 saves again through two games, he still gave up 4 goals in each of them. In fact, he yielded 8 goals on 82 shots which is good for a .902 save percentage thus far.
Raaymakers made 31 saves on 32 shots in his only start, a 2-1 victory over the Wild. The Blue Jackets have scored 11 goals through 3 games, so whoever is in net needs to put up a stellar performance for the Baby Rangers to earn the third place rank.
Speaking of the game against the Wild, Jimmy Vesey, the highly touted draft pick turned unrestricted free agent who signed on with the Rangers on August 19th notched both goals in the victory.
Vesey is having a real strong tournament so far with 3 goals and 2 assists through 3 games. While it doesn’t mean much in terms of what his NHL production will look like, it is still nice to see him put a few in the back of the net and gain some confidence.
The game will be played at 6:30 right after the 5th and 7th place games. The championship game will feature the Baby Red Wings and the undefeated Baby Hurricanes, who were ironically the two teams to defeat the Blue Jackets and Rangers teams respectively.
All of these games will be available to be streamed over the Fox Sports Go app. Here is a link to the game streams. I really wish MSG was doing the broadcasts like a few years ago, but as long as we can watch it somehow, I guess I am fine.
Tune back here tomorrow for a New York Rangers Traverse City Tournament recap and notes article written by yours truly. Until then, enjoy these games as well as the World Cup of Hockey, the two things keeping us from going insane.
