New York Islanders Daily: Short Leash vs Long Leash
The Florida Panthers dismissed their coach Gerard Gallant, which came as a surprise. Here’s what that means for the New York Islanders situation.
These two situations between the Florida Panthers and New York Islanders are very different. It’s tough to compare what went wrong with the Panthers and what is currently going wrong for the Islanders.
The one thing I want to take from this is the leash of Gallant compared to Jack Capuano. Gerard Gallant led the Florida Panthers to their best record in franchise history in 2015-2016. They had high expectations for this year.
The Panthers who are sitting around .500 decided it was time to make a switch. Now compare that to Capuano.
Capuano has been the coach for going on seven years. He’s qualified for the playoffs three times and has one playoff series win. That has yielded Capuano numerous benefits of the doubt.
It just seems frustrating that the Panthers are quick to make a change when they don’t like the way they are heading. They seem content with mediocrity which is a scary thought.
Capauno isn’t the only problem, but he’s certainly not helping anything.
