New York Islanders Daily: Officially On A Win Streak
The New York Islanders won their third game in a row, for the first time this year. Suddenly there is a small sense of hope with this team.
With the New York Islanders win over the Washington Capitals they are officially on their first win streak of the season. This can allow for Islanders fans to be cautiously optimistic.
Last night the score was tied heading into the third period. The Isles then got three goals in four and a half minutes from Shane Prince, Brock Nelson, and Jason Chimera the ex-Capital. Plus a stellar performance from Jaroslav Halak who had a shutout.
The one criticism would be the amount of penalties they took. The Isles can’t afford to give their opponent four or more power plays. The Capitals didn’t score on the power play obviously but, it’s playing with fire at that point. Plus it takes your best player, John Tavares, off the ice.
“To be able to string three in a row together, especially the back-to-back against two of the best teams in the league,” Prince said, “it’s huge for us and we’ve got to build off it and keep it going.”
Prince is right, if the Isles want to get back in the mix in the Eastern Conference they’re gonna have to put a few wins together in a row. Is there offense going to be able to do that is the question.
The Isles have now put up five and three goals in back to back nights which is pretty surprising in itself. Not to mention they beat the two best teams in the Metro. So, my assessment is not quite there yet but heading in the right direction to where you can stat to be cautiously optimistic.
