John Tortorella plays 'I told you so' card with Vancouver
John Tortorella was fired after just one year as the coach of the Vancouver Canucks, but the often fiery coach said he admires the way the Canucks are coming together as an organization and even hinted that Vancouver is doing exactly what he said that the team needed to do by focusing on its young talent and recreating the core of the team.
"I said it to you guys when I left, I think that is what needed to happen there," Tortorella told reporters. "They are in good hands. When you are going that route you need to stay patient because there are going to be some bumps. I am not going to lie to you. I have a lot of good friends in that organization. So sure, I keep an eye on it. I think they are going about it the right way."
Tortorella is due to face his former team Tuesday night when the Canucks pay the Columbus Blue Jackets a visit. The Blue Jackets went 0-7 through their first seven games of the season before Tortorella was hired but have since turned things around a bit, going 4-4-0 under their new coach.
Columbus has yet to win a game at home this season, however, and Tortorella told reporters his focus will remain on earning that elusive victory Tuesday instead of reminiscing about his days with his former team.
