Injured Simmonds misses Kings' road trip

Published Jan. 16, 2011 4:40 p.m. ET

Right wing Wayne Simmonds is staying home from the Los Angeles Kings' upcoming two-game road trip with a lower-body injury.

Kings coach Terry Murray said Sunday that Simmonds won't be with the team in Dallas and St. Louis.

Simmonds was hurt Saturday night during a large scuffle in the second period of the Kings' 5-2 win over Edmonton.

After Kings defenseman Drew Doughty landed a clean hit on Oilers rookie Taylor Hall, Dustin Penner attempted to fight Doughty, and Edmonton's Ales Hemsky tackled Simmonds during the ensuing scrum.

Murray says Simmonds will have an MRI exam Monday.

The 22-year-old Simmonds has nine goals and eight assists in 44 games for the Kings this season.
