Injured goalie Jonathan Bernier to travel with team, but return is uncertain
Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Jonathan Bernier was placed on injured reserve retroactive to Oct. 31, but he could return from a lower-body injury soon. The goaltender told reporters he is feeling better and will travel with the team on a two-game road trip to Dallas and Nashville this week, but he told the media he does not know yet if he will play.
The Leafs are not hurting without Bernier. James Reimer has manned the net for all four games Bernier missed and Reimer performed well, earning a 1-1-2 record with a .939 save percentage.
"We didn’t give up much [on the weekend], and we’re in pretty much every game," Bernier told reporters of the team's play.
The effort from Reimer is not doing much to help Bernier earn the full-time No. 1 role. While Reimer has a 2-2-3 record on the season with a .913 save percentage, Bernier is 0-6-1 with an .899 save percentage.
It looks like Bernier has a lot of work ahead of him to prove he should be the team's starter once he returns.
