Hockey Fights Cancer hits home for Dallas GM Jim Nill, wife Bekki Nill

The Stars' Hockey Fights Cancer night was a highly personal one for the Stars and GM Jim Nill, whose wife, Bekki Nill, is a breast cancer warrior who has battled the disease for 15 years. Nill was diagnosed with cancer in 1999 and beat it the first time around, but in January of 2011, the cancer returned. This time, it was in her liver and bones, meaning Nill now had Stage IV breast cancer. Her cancer is not curable.

Nill bravely told her story in a recent interview with Julie Dobbs. Although Nill still has cancer, her disease is stable and not currently active, so Nill said she simply lives her life to the most and focuses on the present.

Nill also gives back to the community. Among her charitable efforts was her participation in the Stars' Hockey Fights Cancer night on Oct. 24. Nill hosted breast cancer fighters and survivors in a suite for the game, her third consecutive season of doing so, and participated in a ceremonial puck drop.
