Former youth hockey coach James released on bail

Former junior hockey coach and convicted sex offender Graham James has been released on bail and will be living in the Montreal area.

James was due in court Monday to finalize his bail conditions, but documents indicate a justice of the peace signed off on his release Friday afternoon.

James faces nine charges stemming from alleged encounters between 1979 and 1994 involving three boys. One of them was Theo Fleury, who became an NHL star.

The 58-year-old James served more than a year in jail in the late 1990s for assaulting three young hockey players, including future NHL player Sheldon Kennedy.

James was pardoned and moved to Mexico. He returned to Canada after Winnipeg police issued a warrant on the new charges in October.
