Former NHL coach Burns: 'I'm alive!'

Published Sep. 17, 2010 1:00 a.m. ET

Pat Burns wants the world to know that he's still very much alive, despite reports and thousands of tweets suggesting otherwise.

The former NHL coach, who is battling cancer, called TSN hockey columnist Bob McKenzie on Friday after seeing reports of his death at age 58.

In Burns' words: ''Tell them I'm alive. Set them straight.''

Montreal radio station CKAC, whom Burns has worked for, also spoke with the former coach.

Published reports said that Burns' health had deteriorated and he was surrounded by family at his home in Quebec. Subsequent reports that he died raced through social media sites as thousands of people spread the erroneous news.

Obituaries also ran online, only to be pulled down when word came that Burns was alive.
